Who doesn't love a little home makeover?! Throughout my pregnancy, I've become a mad nester and have really enjoyed making over rooms in our apartment. Our bedroom has undergone a little makeover, not just to make it feel nice and new, but to also create some extra space for our little bundle of joy arriving soon.
You don't have to spend a fortune, and you might not need an interior designer to help, but here's a few of my tips and tricks on performing a little bedroom makeover that'll make the space feel less cluttered and a whole lot prettier.
We aren't all blessed with a large bedroom, so if you're struggling to keep everything in order, here's a few things you can do:
For starters, remove anything that's taking up space, such as an overly sized bed or any large storage furniture. Replace them with something smaller and more adaptable to the size of your room, such as a futon that can act as both bed and sofa, and a small 2 mirror wardrobe that will not only fit better into the space you have available but which will also create the illusion of a larger bedroom.
You might also consider furniture and decor that is multifunctional. So, you might opt for a bed that has drawers below, and a mirror that comes equipped with a vanity tray so you don't have to fit an extra table into your bedroom for your beauty needs.
If you have any available wall space, add shelving units for loose clothes, books, and beauty essentials, and add wall hooks for some of your clothing needs.
I'm a huge advocate for clearing out my wardrobe, and getting rid of anything I haven't worn in 6+ months. You can sell these items on eBay to make some extra cash, or donate them to charity. You'll be surprised how much you can throw out and the space you can create by doing this twice a year!
Setting up a relaxing space
Outside of your living room, your bedroom should be the one place in your house to retreat to and unwind after a stressful day. This is your sanctuary; your quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house. And, of course, your place to sleep.
Let's think about the colors you use in your bedroom. If they're too bright and jarring, they are hardly conducive to a relaxed mood state. To achieve maximum zen, you should focus on more calming colors, using soft and light pastels throughout your room's design to improve your mood state. Then consider your bed. It needs to be fit for purpose, not only for the time when you go to sleep but to give you the opportunity to relax too, perhaps with a good book and a cup of tea. Thinking about the mattress, you should replace the one you have if it's uncomfortable to sleep on.
