Planning a successful road trip

So you’ve decided you're going to take a big trip on the road. Good idea! Upon first thought, the idea of a road trip is just people sat idling in a car, hoping everything goes well. With a little extra thinking, however, you’ll realise that there is a lot of fun to be had with this kind of thing. It’s more than just sitting in a vehicle, sleeping, and taking turns to drive it!

Here's our tips on planning a successful road trip...

Plan Everything

As mentioned before, you’re not just going to pack a few things, jump into your motor and head to where you want to go. You’re a responsible enough person, so you probably knew that anyway. If you’re going to be travelling quite a long way, following the road sign probably won’t cut it. Hop online and check out a route planner that can easily tell you how to get to where you want to go.

Choose Your Vehicle

You might be content with what you have at the moment, but it might not have enough power or enough space. Your little car might be convenient, but if you need a car that can, say, tow Hybrid campers, then you might need a heavier one. After you’ve got what you need, it’s probably wise to head to the mechanic and let them assess if it’s good enough to work with.

Clear Out The Vehicle

Your car is probably going to be filled with irrelevant things at this stage. Take a good ten minutes out of your day and do some decluttering. You’re going to want to pack a lot of stuff, and that’s not going to happen if it’s already full of work stuff.

Pack Essentials First

This is so obvious, but worry about what you actually need first. You’ll want to bring a lot of stuff with you, but be a grown-up and pack the necessities. You don’t want to get all the way there and find out you didn’t bring something vital because you wanted your games console with you.

Bring Some Fun

The ride will get boring at times – it just will. That’s not a problem, though. We’re only human; we can’t expect to be sat still for hours and not get a little restless. Handheld consoles, music, puzzle books – bring along anything that’ll keep you occupied whilst you’re bored of your friends/family’s company.
