I’ve never really been one to wear ‘shapewear’. I’ve always had this idea that they’re uncomfortable and unslightly. Despite not having really worn them much, I recently purchased a dress that I knew required them underneath!
Now, I was thinking this was going to be a relatively easy purchase, but I was wrong! Upon walking into the lingerie section in my local department store, I was confronted with a million and one different cuts, seams and control levels. I had no idea what my best option was.
So when I got home, I decided to put together a little shapewear cheat sheet for you ladies. Whether you want comfort in your shapewear, or just want something to take care of chafing, read below for all the answers!
If you want shape plus comfort, try Bras N Things second skin high waist thigh shaper shorts. Full control from the waist down and maximum comfort! For maximum control, my tip would be to go for the smallest size you can in this brand. I went for the size 10 in the nude. I was amazed at how much coverage and support I got from such a thin fabric! So light and breathable in fact, I was able to wear these on a 40 degree day.
From day to day, I usually wear seamless g-strings as underwear. So naturally when I saw B Free offer seamless thongs that offer support and shape as well, I was keen to give them a go! And honestly? They did not disappoint. Fantastic option if like me, g-strings are your preference! Also, these ladies offer AMAZING stick on bras!
Hush Hush have such a stunning range which is available on The Iconic. I know I’ve never associated shapewear with the words ‘sexy’, ‘cute’ or ‘pretty’, but this brand changes all that!
I chose the Eden set which has a medium control camisole and the option of boyleg or thigh control shorts. This set made me feel super sexy and confident.
Here’s just some of their gorgeous range…
Best suck in
I found the Bendon ‘seamfree waist control thigh shaper’ gave the best ‘suck in’ effect. In terms of sizing, again like Bras N Things, go as tight as you can! These shorts also smoothed lines from the underwear I had on as well.
I’m no stranger to a bit of a chafe. Uncomfortable and unsightly. Just not ideal.
The solution? Bridgets!
The fabric literally wicks away sweat for maximum comfort. Not so much a ‘shaping’ pair of shorts, but they create smooth lines and avoid chafing. Perfect for wearing in hot weather! The shorts are machine washable (YAY!) and have inner thigh support for extra comfort. This female founded brand has an amazing mission of spreading body positivity as well.
